Tell Trump's Dept of Agriculture: Support Farmers Building Clean, Affordable Energy

Docket Number: RBS-26-BUSINESS-0529-0002

More farmers and ranchers are choosing to bring renewable energy onto their land to earn a steady income and benefit their crops and livestock. But right now, the Trump administration is trying to make it harder for rural communities to build solar and wind power.

Speak out against the proposed change to the USDA's Rural Energy for America Program (REAP).

Farm work is getting more difficult due to hotter temperatures and unpredictable rainfall – reducing crop yields, harming livestock, and making it harder for farmers to feed their families and all of us. But we have a solution to rising costs and temperatures: renewable energy.

Less than 0.1 percent of farmland is used for wind turbines and solar arrays, yet farmers who choose to host these projects on their land can earn thousands of dollars each year in land-lease payments. Not only is that income drought-proof, it actively mitigates the climate crisis that's making agriculture more unstable every year.

Renewable power is farmer power. Join the Sierra Club in telling USDA Secretary Rollins to reverse course and support farmers building renewable, affordable energy!
