Don’t let Duke Energy pull another fast one on us!

Last year, Duke Energy convinced the NC General Assembly to pass Senate Bill 266, which got rid of the state’s 2030 clean energy targets and lets them stick residential customers with the bill for fossil fuel expansions.

Well, Duke Energy made a $5 billion profit last year - and now they’re seeking an 18% rate increase for residential customers.

A new legislative session is underway. Tell NC lawmakers to reject Duke Energy proposals this year and support clean energy.

I’m angry that Duke Energy lied to us all last year about S266. It didn’t protect rate payers - just the opposite, it allows them to stick us with more of their construction costs and let them get away with delaying the adoption of cheaper clean energy sources. As your constituent, I urge you to oppose any legislation coming from Duke Energy. They can’t be trusted. They ask for something every few years and often say it will lower costs. Then ask for rate increases anyway. Right now they’re asking our utilities commission for an 18% residential rate increase even though they earned a $5 billion profit last year! Please oppose any attempts by Duke Energy and its allies to raise our bills, increase their profits or slow down the adoption of clean energy. Renewable sources like wind, solar, and battery storage save us money, lower pollution, and make us more resilient in the face of extreme weather. We need solutions that help get more of these resources on the grid. I’d like to see the state do more to promote clean energy; at the very least, we should preserve the laws we have in place to promote these technologies, not delay them. Thank you
