Our electric bills continue to rise. It doesn’t have to be this way. It is not inevitable that the price we pay to keep the lights on continues to climb. Our electricity rates are being held hostage by the broken system at PJM Interconnection, the regional transmission organization (RTO) that controls how electricity moves from power generators (power plants) to distributors (your utility company). Learn more about PJM.
PA Governor Josh Shapiro has taken important steps to protect Pennsylvania residents from rising electricity costs caused by PJM’s energy market decisions and by its failure to match increasing demand with new energy sources. Thank Governor Shapiro for his efforts so far and ask him to do more!

Letter Text:
Dear Governor Shapiro,
Thank you for leading the way to protect Pennsylvania residents from rising electricity costs caused by PJM’s energy market decisions and by its failure to match increasing demand with new energy sources.
Pennsylvanians are already facing the challenges of increased electricity bills. Residents will continue to see rising energy bills since PJM has not adequately addressed the source of these issues.
These impacts would have been worse without your efforts. Your actions against PJM as well as your collaboration with other governors to improve transparency and accountability within PJM’s board, and efforts to convince PJM to use a sub-annual market model are especially impactful. All Pennsylvania residents will benefit if this practical reform is adopted.
Despite progress, much work remains to be done in order to control rising electricity bills. Please consider the following:
- Continue to be a champion for PJM reforms: Persistence is needed in advancing common-sense reforms at PJM regarding governance as well as the adoption of your proposed sub-annual capacity market model.
- Explore state-level protections for consumers: Please champion state-level policies to protect vulnerable ratepayers from rising costs.
- Promote a diversified energy portfolio: Please prioritize energy solutions that can deploy rapidly, such as solar and wind energy, battery storage, and energy efficiency; which improve grid resilience and affordability while helping us to achieve a cleaner grid.
With your continued commitment, Pennsylvania can achieve a fair and dependable energy system that protects consumers.
Sincerely,
[Your Name]
