Pennsylvania Needs an Insect Conservation Program

Pennsylvania is home to nearly 100 species of imperiled pollinators and other beneficial insects. Unfortunately, there is no state agency responsible for the welfare of these species.

PA House Resolution 66 calls for a study to help the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) develop an insect conservation program. Learn more: HR 66 FACTSHEET

HR 66 has passed out of the PA House Environmental & Natural Resources Protection Committee (ENRP) and is now awaiting a vote on the House Floor.

Let your Representative know that you want them to support insect conservation!

Dear Representative, I am writing in support of House Resolution 66, which would direct the Legislative Budget and Finance Committee to conduct a study regarding insect conservation.  Pennsylvania does not have an agency responsible for native pollinators and other insects. Insect pollinators provide around $250 million in value to Pennsylvania agriculture. Native insects provide many ecosystem services like pollination, seed dispersal, pest control, nutrient cycling, and are food for other organisms. While the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources does a lot of proactive insect conservation work, a study regarding insect conservation in Pennsylvania will enhance future conservation efforts.  HR 66 will result in a report useful not only to DCNR, but to anyone interested in pollinator and insect conservation in Pennsylvania.  Please support HR 66!
