No state has more renewable energy resources installed than Texas.
Yet some legislators are putting our reputation and those resources at risk.
Over the last two years, growth in renewable energy has made our electric grid more reliable and resilient during periods in the summer and winter when energy demand is highest. Renewable energy has lowered overall energy costs on Texas families and small businesses, and it provides electricity without the use of precious water resources or direct air and water pollution. Renewables have created jobs, local wealth, and stable property tax revenue for schools and local governments.
We STRONGLY OPPOSE SB 819/HB 553 and SB 388 because renewables lower costs and keep homes and businesses powered.
Specifically, SB 388 (King) is unnecessary and costly:
- 50% Dispatchable Goal will Increase Energy Costs.
- Anti-competitive. Will not lead to grid reliability.
- Battery storage excluded. Nuclear energy given double credit.
SB 819/HB 553 are direct attacks on renewable energy:
- Would require several extra layers or steps for establishing renewables that do not apply to other resources.
- New fee for solar and wind facilities.
- More red tape on permitting processes.
Keep Texas a leader in renewable energy. Tell your legislator to OPPOSE SB 819/HB 553 and SB 388.
