On June 4, Senator Cortez-Masto re-introduced the Southern Nevada Economic Development and Conservation Act (SNEDCA) to Congress. Although the bill contains nearly 2 million acres of much-needed public lands protections, the bill would also authorize a massive sell-off of your public lands the size of Washington DC for real estate development for luxury housing and warehouses. This expanding sprawl would increase air pollution, intensify carbon emissions and climate impacts, exacerbate the urban heat island effect, waste Lake Mead’s water, harm the Sloan Canyon National Recreation Area, and create even more expensive housing instead of helping residents of Las Vegas who are struggling. Please sign this petition to tell our Southern Nevada elected officials to remove sprawl from the legislation and propose instead policies that tackle our climate impacts and environmental injustices.
