The U.S. Forest Service is moving forward with plans to use herbicides as part of the 11,700-acre Caldor Fire reforestation project in the Lake Tahoe Basin and surrounding Sierra forests.
Community members are deeply concerned about the use of chemical herbicides in a sensitive watershed that feeds Lake Tahoe, especially in steep post-fire landscapes vulnerable to erosion and runoff.
Tahoe deserves restoration strategies that prioritize water quality, transparency, and safer alternatives wherever possible.
We are calling on Congress to:
- Demand greater oversight of herbicide use in the Tahoe Basin, and eliminate use of herbicides until more environmental analyses can be done
- Require full public transparency around spray locations and chemicals used
- Push for stronger protections near waterways, trails, recreation areas, and communities
- Ensure non-chemical restoration methods are prioritized whenever feasible
Please send a message to your representatives today and urge them to protect Lake Tahoe’s watershed and public lands.
