Please Support a Cleaner, Cheaper Virginia - Push Back On Dominion’s Dirty Plans

I write today as a Virginian increasingly concerned about the health of our environment and our community's resilience in the face of climate change. While fossil fuels may have been the only viable option to power our homes and businesses in the past, advancements in clean energy have eclipsed the last generation’s technology. Cleaner, cheaper, and faster sources of energy like solar, wind, and battery storage are available now. Yet, Dominion Energy, our monopoly utility company, is now proposing to go in the wrong direction. Despite strong laws that tackle climate change and drive clean energy forward, Dominion is now proposing up to eight massive methane gas plants across Virginia. These plants are not in line with Virginia’s clean energy laws, nor are they the right choice. This moment calls for innovation, not regression. Dominion must break from old, dirty gas plants and embrace the cleaner, cheaper, and faster power generation solutions available today. I urge you, as Governor, to push back against Dominion Energy’s plans for a massive buildout of dirty gas plants and tell them to move toward more clean energy now. Under the Virginia Clean Economy Act, Dominion should be meeting electricity demand by relying on solar, wind, and importantly storage, not fossil fuels. We are counting on you as Governor to keep our electric bills affordable, protect our environment, and ensure Virginia's energy future is built on innovation rather than outdated technology. As electric demand surges across our region, Virginians need leadership that holds Dominion accountable and charts a course toward the cleaner, cheaper power generation our families and our climate deserve. Please act via legislation and regulatory proceedings to tell Dominion to change course.
