Join a Committee!

What is a Wisconsin Chapter Committee?
Committees work together as teams on a mix of issues. Learn more about our specific committee openings below.

What committee(s) can I join?
  • Fundraising Committee - Assist with Chapter fundraising initiatives, including: planning events, thanking donors, working on grant proposals, and more!
  • Legislative Committee - Following the legislative cycles, research bills at the WI state legislature, create and deliver public testimony, meet with legislators to discuss Sierra Club priorities and issue positions. Responsible for letting Sierra Club members know about actions to take for or against legislation, such as attending a town hall or participating in a public comment period. Positions on bills are largely dictated by already adopted Sierra Club positions.
  • Budget Committee - Take action on the Wisconsin State budget and advocate for an environmentally just state budget
  • Political & Electoral Committee - Depending on the political and electoral cycle, assist with questionnaires, legislative score cards, phone banking, endorsements, etc.
  • Equity, Inclusion & Justice Committee - Promote diversity and equity within the Sierra Club Wisconsin Chapter by planning trainings on inclusion and diversity, creating a welcoming environment, and ensuring that our environmental work is inclusive in nature and fosters connections between diverse populations in the state.
  • Awards Committee - Help determine which Sierra Club members and partners we should honor every year at our annual Awards ceremony. The committee also helps plan the Awards Ceremony event.
What is the expected time commitment?
Time commitments can range from a couple hours a week, to a couple of hours a month. You can make the experience what you wish, but the minimum expectation is a couple of hours a month to attend monthly meetings and take on action items.

Are there requirements for joining a committee?
No! No prior volunteer or environmental experience is required. If you are interested in making a difference, meeting new people, and learning new skills, a Conservation Issue Team will be a great fit. Our volunteer leaders and staff are ready to teach you everything you'll need or want to know! Come with an open mind, be ready to learn and contribute your skills, and be ready to be part of an amazing volunteer team!
