Tell We Energies to give customers a break from its greed and pollution!

We Energies wants to charge you even more for your power while proposing two new gas plants that will pollute our air for decades to come.

Under a new plan filed with Wisconsin’s Public Service Commission, We Energies would raise average residential rates by an additional 18.5% over the next two years, increasing its profit margin and putting more of our money in the pockets of its shareholders. The utility already has some of the highest electric rates in the country, and it has the fifth highest profit rates for utilities in the country.

To avoid the worst impacts of climate change, we need our utilities to act immediately to start drawing down their reliance on dirty power and shifting to affordable renewable energy.

Call on We Energies to end its reliance on dirty power and to stop its excessive rate hikes!

As a customer who relies on your services, I am appalled to hear that We Energies has filed for yet another electric rate increase. This costly increase will hurt customers like me who are already burdened with increased costs in almost every aspect of our lives. As the cost of energy has become increasingly challenging, We Energies has done little to move forward its affordability efforts, while it continues to file for rate increases year after year. Just as troubling is We Energies’ determination to double down on dirty power while the climate crisis is looming. We simply cannot afford to build out new and convert existing power units to gas at the Paris, Oak Creek, Elm Road and Weston locations. Doing so will lock us into paying for dirty power for decades to come and continue a toxic legacy of pollution around these plants that threatens the health and wellbeing of people living nearby. Every dollar spent on fossil fuels means less money to fund the necessary transition to renewable energy. Gas plants are proving to be less reliable than clean energy during extreme weather events, which are more frequent and more severe as we continue to experience climate change impacts. If We Energies’ moves forward with this plan, it will be next to impossible for it to achieve its stated goal of carbon neutrality by 2050. I urge you to reconsider both the rate hike and the plan to dump hundreds of millions of dollars into new gas power plants and convert existing power units to gas. We simply cannot afford another rate increase, our communities cannot afford decades of additional pollution, and we must do everything we can to avoid the worst impacts of the climate crisis.
