Tell the PSC: No Discounts for the Beaver Dam data center

Rather than setting up a Very Large Customer agreement that would apply consistently to any hyperscale energy users (like data centers) in its territory, Alliant Energy is setting electric rates for these customers one at a time. Right now, they are setting the electric rates for the Beaver Dam data center.

Unfortunately, almost all of the relevant information is redacted from the publicly available document with the draft rate proposal - the power needed, customer name, length of term, and details of charges including demand charges.

Because the public is not able to see the relevant information about this draft rate agreement, we have no way of knowing the details of the proposal. Send a message to the PSC asking to make sure that there are no discounts for the Beaver Dam data center!

Thank you for the opportunity to comment on Docket 6680-TE-115: Application of Wisconsin Power and Light Company for Approval of an Individual Contract Rate Service Agreement for a Large Load Customer in Beaver Dam. I am unable to provide detailed input in this case because most of the essential information (including the power needed, customer name, length of term, and details of charges including demand charges) have been redacted. I am disappointed by the lack of information and transparency about such an important case that could impact electric rates for all Alliant customers. I recommend that you require Alliant Energy to pursue a Very Large Customer Tariff that would be mandatory for all current and future large load projects in its territory. This provides more transparency for and input by residential ratepayers, as well as more consistent treatment across customers. That VLC tariff should include the following: The large customer must pay for 100% of the new energy demand, including the costs of new infrastructure and fuel. The term of the contract protects residential and small business ratepayers for the full lifetime of the infrastructure. The contract prioritizes new clean energy to avoid risky gas prices and fuel price shifting. There is a requirement for reporting mechanisms and enforcement of the contract. Thank you for your consideration,
