Delaware Deserves Protections From Data Center Threats!

If we don’t act, Delaware could be next in a long line of states grappling with higher transmission costs and energy bills, worsening air quality, and disruptions caused by low frequency noise. Please take a moment and send a message to Governor Matt Meyer, DNREC Secretary Greg Patterson, and Public Service Commission Chair Dallas Winslow urging them to do everything in their power to protect against these harmful impacts. You can also add a brief personal message at the beginning with additional thoughts!

As we approach winter, we are likely to see higher energy bills as a result of a multi-year trend of unchecked data center development across the region. With one, 1.2 GW, proposed hyperscale data center proposal in Delaware City, at least two warehouses attempting to flip to large centers, and another large scale data center now being proposed in Newark, we have a chance as a state to protect our communities, our environment, and advocate for the wellbeing of our energy system. I urge you to do everything in your power to protect Delawareans from the harmful impacts of data center expansion in Delaware through comprehensive rate design, updating outdated permitting processes, and, when necessary, taking executive action. Already, we are hearing stories from communities across the nation who are seeing substantially higher energy bills, sharp declines in air quality from diesel backup generators, and a threat to affordable energy as the spike in demand delays the retirement of expensive, dirty coal facilities across the region. It is crucial that we act now, and use all of the tools in our toolbox in order to ensure that Delaware doesn’t go down this same path. Thank you for your time and attention, I hope I can count on you to stand up against irresponsible, unregulated data center development.
