Tell LA PSC Not to end Net Metering

User-added image

Louisiana consumes more energy per capita than any other state,

but our regulators and utilities have been slow to adopt policies that would make solar more attractive. (“How Louisiana solar power prospects shifting to business, utility-scale projects,” The Advocate, July 28, 2018.)

Your energy independence is under attack.

Louisiana Public Service Commissioners are considering an end to solar

Net Metering for LA residents.

Commission staff is recommending changes to solar policy that will cut the value of your solar in half. Ask your Commissioner to protect your rights!

Louisiana’s energy freedom is under attack again as new rules to end Solar Net Metering for Louisiana residents are proposed to the Louisiana Public Service Commissioners.

The new rule would eliminate the 1-for-1 credit that people with solar panels get from their utility company for producing clean energy and delivering it to the grid. Without the credit utilities can take the energy generated on private property, at below market value, and re-sell it for a profit. They can also charge additional fees, allowing costs to vary widely by utility, leaving customers and businesses with no statewide standard to rely on.

Read the rule here

WE NEED RULES THAT PROMOTE COMPETITION AND PROTECT CONSUMERS
OVER  UTILITY MONOPOLIES

  • There is no economic justification for this change despite multiple calls from experts for a cost-based analysis. A flawed and outdated report from 2015 is no substitute for fair analysis.
  • The draft rules are out of step with national practices and ignore the increasingly important role of Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) in diversifying generation and strengthening reliability
  • Despite the stated purpose of the rules, they inhibit and do not encourage growth in distributed generation and solar adoption.
  • These proposed changes could hurt small businesses owners and stifle job growth among solar installers

ARE YOU AN EXISTING SOLAR CUSTOMER? You signed up for net metering under fair rules but this proposal would change the rate on you. As drafted, the proposal only covers ‘Grandfathering’ for FIVE years. Our Commissioners must protect consumers by locking in the rates as they were when you invested in your future and signed up for Louisiana’s net metering system.

IT'S YOUR ENERGY

Would you want the utility to TAKE the energy that YOU generate on YOUR property at below market value, and RE-SELL it for a profit?

You made an agreement to put clean energy on the Louisiana grid.  The utility agreed to compensate you for it at a fair rate.  Don’t let the utility renege on their agreement!

Louisiana consumes more energy per capita than any other state, but our regulators and utilities have been slow to adopt policies that would make solar more attractive. (“How Louisiana solar power prospects shifting to business, utility-scale projects,” The Advocate, July 28, 2018.) Residential solar adds resiliency to the grid, can address times of peak usage and reduces the need for new power plants. Countless cost-based studies across the country have shown that distributed energy resources, such as residential solar, benefit all energy consumers and is a major component of a successful energy future. The current proposed rule change contained in Docket No. R-33929 would have devastating consequences for Louisiana's renewable energy future. Please do not accept this rule change. Show your commitment to Louisiana’s future by protecting my right to fair net metering in Louisiana. Put Louisiana at the top of a good list!
