Take Action to Protect Building Codes - Stop HB 2384

Our elected officials want to take away our local control.

Year after year, Jefferson City keeps finding ways to attack our autonomy and our home affordability.

Right now, cities and counties can adopt building codes that best fit their communities. Jefferson City wants to completely strip that power away from us.

HB 2384 prohibits any city or county from implementing a building code that improves sustainability, energy efficiency, or environmental responsiveness for new homes, multi-family housing, and commercial buildings. This is a direct attack on local control and hinders the ability of communities to meet the needs of their residents. HB 2384 would undermine more than 100 municipalities in Missouri with modern energy codes.

Remind our elected officials what they are in the Capitol to do - protect our communities.

The bill has passed the Missouri House of Representatives, and it is up for consideration in the Senate.

Use our action alert to send a message directly to members of the Senate to tell them to reject this dangerous bill.

Dear Senator, Please vote “no” on HB 2384 if it is considered on the Senate floor. HB 2384 is a direct attack on our home affordability and local control. Right now, cities and counties can adopt building codes that work best for their communities and this bill would strip that power away from us. Decisions we make now about new buildings will shape how they impact us for decades. We need to make sure buildings are built to last and ready to protect families living in them years from now. Houses and buildings built to stronger building codes are proven to be less expensive to maintain, they can withstand extreme weather events better than homes with outdated building standards, and they have significantly improved health for residents through improved indoor air quality. Our communities deserve local control and safe, affordable housing. Please vote “no” on HB 2384.
