Right now, there is a massive proposed gas pipeline buildout in North Carolina. This buildout is unnecessary and would harm the state's natural resources and communities.
The construction of one proposed project, Transco's Southeast Supply Enhancement Project (SSEP), would further pollute communities already experiencing high levels of air pollution.
Many of the project's adverse health effects could be avoided if Transco installs electric compressors instead of new fossil fuel-fired combustion sources at compressor stations in North Carolina.
A recent report from the Sierra Club and 7 Directions of Service noted that if SSEP is built, "increased emissions may affect local air quality within Environmental Justice communities near Compressor Stations 150 and 155."
The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (NCDEQ) is accepting public comments on draft air quality permits for both compressor stations until Nov. 19.
Take action to stop this dangerous proposal and protect clean air in North Carolina: Tell the NCDEQ to deny this project any air permits!
