Tell NJDEP to Stop the Toxic Crematorium Proposal in Robbinsville!

We need you to tell NJDEP to oppose Robbinsville’s toxic crematorium proposal by March 14th!

Despite overwhelming public opposition, the crematorium facility by Princeton Memorial Park has now received a proposed NJDEP draft air quality permit. The proposed facility in Robbinsville is next to a residential area and less than 800 feet from Sharon Elementary School, which is a sensitive receptor particularly because of the impact to children. This is entirely inappropriate for both the local communities and the environment.

Crematoriums are a polluting business and the proposed location is zoned for residential purposes, not for a facility that will be burning thousands of bodies a year.

The cremation process results in air toxic emissions, including volatile organic compounds (VOCs), fine particulate matter (PM_2.5), sulfur dioxide (SO₂), and is most concerning in heavy metal emissions like mercury, arsenic and cadmium. These toxins can have a significant negative impact on human health, particularly children, and the environment.

We need you to help us urge the NJDEP to evaluate the impact on public health by these air toxics and the bioaccumulation that the emissions of mercury will bring to this neighborhood and the surrounding area. The Department cannot legally move forward to approve this permit without understanding if the community is at risk.

Make your voice heard as a local resident opposing this polluting, toxic proposal and send the NJDEP a message now telling them to evaluate the impact to public health by these air toxics and reject the proposed permit!

I urge the NJDEP to reject the Princeton Memorial Park crematorium proposal! This is a polluting business and the proposed location is zoned for residential purposes, not for a facility that will be burning thousands of bodies a year. Specifically, mercury can bioaccumulate and have lasting long-term effects in the neighborhood. We urge the NJDEP to evaluate the impact on public health by these air toxics and the bioaccumulation that the emissions of mercury will bring to this neighborhood and the surrounding area. The Department cannot legally move forward to approve this permit without understanding if the community is at risk. On top of this, the proposed site is a public park that should not be developed on. The site is also right across the street from a residential area and less than 800 feet from Sharon Elementary School, a sensitive receptor particularly because of the impact to children. For the sake of surrounding residential communities, children and the local environment, please evaluate health impacts. Knowing the substantial negative impacts these heavy metals can cause to the public, we urge you to reject this proposal!
