Prioritize Native Plants at State Office Buildings

The Problem: Pennsylvania has an abundance of state office buildings that are often surrounded by lawns or non-native landscaping, even though pollinators, birds and other species are in decline, largely from habitat loss.

The Simple Solution: Add more native plants around state office buildings! PA House Bill 426 prioritizes the use of native plant landscaping around these facilities.

Imagine the many state buildings around the Commonwealth with native landscaping - providing habitat for monarch butterflies, lightning bugs, and other pollinators, while requiring less fertilizer, protecting water quality, and assisting with stormwater management. Choosing native plants also benefits local small businesses like native plant nurseries.

Dear Representative, Native habitat loss is leading to declines in pollinators and songbirds. The monarch has even been proposed as Threatened by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The solution is simple, we need more native plants to support pollinators and songbirds. Native landscaping can also benefit water quality and stormwater management. House Bill 426 will prioritize the use of native plants for landscaping at state office buildings, providing critical habitat for species in need. Please show you care about Pennsylvania’s pollinators and support HB 426.
