Tell Gov. Shapiro and DEP: Tackle climate pollution from fracking and oil and gas drillers

Governor Shapiro and the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) announced that they are putting together new rules to reduce Pennsylvania methane emissions, the potent air and climate-warming pollutant that leaks from fracking and oil and gas drilling. The DEP is writing these new standards now, and you can help shape them to make the regulations as strong as possible.

Add your name to urge DEP and the Governor’s office to create the strongest possible protections against methane pollution in Pennsylvania.

Thank you, Governor Shapiro and the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), for proposing strong methane pollution standards to reduce methane leaks from oil and gas operations in Pennsylvania. Thank you also for setting strong protections for both conventional and unconventional sites, and for low-producing wells, which are responsible for half of Pennsylvania's total methane emissions. As you develop the rules, we urge you to propose the strongest standards that protect our health and our planet. You can do this by: - Requiring more frequent monitoring of smaller and marginal wells, as well as the largest wells and fracking and drilling sites; - Increasing engagement with the communities and residents living near fracking and oil and gas drilling, to let them know when major pollution events happen, get their input about what they're experiencing from these activities, and to advise them on how best to protect their health; - Requiring fast timelines for repairing methane leaks once they're detected to rapidly address pollution and protect public health and our environment; - Bringing these new protections into effect quickly to reduce harmful pollution as soon as possible. We encourage the DEP to propose the strongest possible methane safeguards to protect our health, tackle climate change, and build a safer and stronger commonwealth.
