A New Beginning Walk in Forest Park

Join Lisa and Annies annual traditional New Years Day walk in Forest Park. The 2026 hike will highlight the central and western portions of the park with an emphasis on the spring tornado damage and ongoing tree restoration. Rick Armstrong will be acting as the lead docent for the duration of the hike.

Time: Meet at 10am at the south side of the Forest Park Visitor Center. Park in the Visitor Lot or along the streets.

Estimated length: 5 miles in about 2.5 hours.

Directions: It is simplest to approach the Forest Park Visitor Center from Lindell Boulevard.  Being New Years Day, the Visitor Center and its restrooms are NOT likely to be open.  Coordinates: 38.643363, -90.282704 .

Description of outing:  Join Lisa and Annie’s annual traditional New Years Day walk in Forest Park. The 2026 hike will highlight the central and western portions of the park with an emphasis on the spring tornado damage and ongoing tree restoration. Rick Armstrong will be acting as the lead docent for the duration of the hike,

Difficulty: This is an easy/moderate hike. We will be walking on dirt trails and pavement. Some of the trails may be muddy. There will be a few minor hills.
 
SIERRA CLUB POLICIES:
  • A $1 donation to the Sierra Club is requested from each hiker.
  • Well-behaved, leased dogs are welcome.
  • Guns are prohibited on all Sierra Club outings.
Dress in layers appropriate for the weather.  Bring water and any desired snacks for 2-3 hours. Hiking poles are optional (this is a fairly flat terrain). We’ll be hiking in most weather, only cancellations for heavy rain.

After the Hike: Kaldi’s Coffee on Skinker (northeast corner of Skinker and Forest Park Pkwy) is optional.
