Allegheny Trail, Cheat Canyon Wildlife Management Area

This section is 8-10 miles, depending on whether the Jenkinsburg Bridge isaccessible for a shuttle. We will start on the Allegheny Trail at the Friends of Cheat Campgroundnear Albright, WV. If it is accessible, we can take the Railroad Grade Trail to Jenkinsburg.Alternatively, we may park at the Mt. Nebo parking area, so we would stay on the AlleghenyTrail to climb out of the canyon. Bring: Sturdy hiking shoes required, the trail is rocky. We may need to ford the stream several times (less than knee deep), so a pair of flip flops or waders helps. Bring a day pack with camera, pack a lunch and at least two liters of water, personal medications, rain gear and insect repellent and sun screen. A change of dry clothes (dry shoes socks underwear, pants shirt) is recommended. We can leave those in the car, but it makes the trip home a lot more comfortable. Prepare for rain, blistering heat, and a cold windy day. There is likely to be no cell phone service in the canyon.

Additional Directions: Rendezvous at the parking area near the CheatFest Campground just north of Albright off Rt. 26.

Carpool: We may set up a shuttle from the Bull Run Road near Mt. Nebo

Note: Carpool transportation is at the sole risk of the participants.

Cancellation Policy: Activity is held rain or shine, but may be altered due to inclement weather
