Hike Coyote Lake Harvey Bear Ranch County Park

Hike Coyote Lake-Harvey Bear Ranch County Park (near Gilroy CA) Heavy rain cancels. Meet: 9:30 am at the Mendoza Ranch Parking Lot. There is no fee to park here. There is a restroom at the parking lot. Directions: From Highway 101, take the Leavesley Road exit in Gilroy. Go East on Leavesley Road 2 miles to New Avenue. Turn left (north) on New Avenue 0.5 miles to Roop Road. Then turn right (east) on Roop Road into the foothills. The entrance to the parking lot will be on the left in 3.5 miles.https://maps.app.goo.gl/9TECWwxRh1Ek1rfi8. Carpool: 8:15 at Page Mill/Arastradero & 280 ParkNRide (Leader will not be at carpool.) Hike Description: 2A - 7.3 miles and about 900 ft. elevation change. We will be hiking in the hills east of Gilroy CA. On the ridge we will have beautiful views of the Gilroy valley, Morgan Hill, and Coyote lake; incredible scenery and not crowded. It may be windy in the open spaces and at our lunch spot. There will be shade on our afternoon return. There may be black cows grazing on or near the trails. Also, we may see wild pigs. Some of the paths may be rough from dried-up mud with cow/animal indents, plus plenty of cow pies. Some spots remain muddy. Poles will be helpful if you use them.We start on the access trail to the Mendoza Trail from the parking lot, followed by Mummy Mountain, Gaviota, Blue Oak, Coyote Ridge, and back to the Mendoza Trail to parking.Bring: completed medical form (see link below to download if you dont have one), water, lunch, something to sit on for lunch, and poles if you use them.
