Come one, come all (suggested ages: teens–adult; members & non-members) to the beautiful 2.3-mile Sassafras Trail loop inside Paris Mountain State Park. Enjoy a shaded forest hike through a rich variety of flora and fauna—perfect for connecting with Mother Nature. I’ve even caught a glimpse of a mother turtle laying her eggs right in the middle of the trail!

This hike takes place on a Saturday, hikers-only day at Paris Mountain, so there’s no need to worry about cyclists. The hike is rated moderate, with an elevation gain of approximately 340 feet. Restrooms are available at the parking lot.

Bring whatever makes you comfortable: layered clothing, sturdy hiking shoes or boots, a hiking pole if desired, water, snacks, a personal first-aid kit, and anything else you enjoy having on the trail.

The hike itself is free, though park admission fees apply:

  • $6 for adults

  • $3.50 for children ages 6–15

  • Free for children 5 and under

Annual state park passes are also available for purchase at the park office.
Volunteers will receive a copy of the Official Guide of SC State Parks!

Meet-up details:
We will meet at 9:00 AM at the trailhead sign at the very back of the Sulfur Springs parking lot (see photo). The hike takes approximately 1.5 hours. Several other trailheads are located nearby if you’d like to extend your day of outdoor fun afterward! Paris Mountain State Park has many amenities to discover and enjoy.
