Veteran and Military Students—join us for a weekend getaway to Pilot Mountain for an unforgettable outdoor experience built on camaraderie, challenge, and recharge.This immersive weekend trip will include camping, hiking, and climbing through the lush forests and impressive rock faces western North Carolina. Whether you’re looking to push your limits, reconnect with nature, or spend time with fellow service members and veterans, this trip offers space to decompress and build community and wellness outside the classroom.What to Expect:
- 🏕️ Group camping at Jomeokee (Pilot Mountain)
- 🧗 Guided Climbing (no prior experience required)
- 🥾 Hiking through the historic Sauratown Mountain range
- 🤝 Team-based activities and shared meals
- 🌄 Time to unplug, reset, and connect with fellow students
All activities are designed with safety, accessibility, and mutual support in mind. Camping and climbing gear, fees, and meals are be provided for the entire weekend thanks to Sierra Club Military Outdoors.Who Can Attend:
Veteran or military students and their spouses. Preference given to those currently enrolled at any University (Undergraduate, Graduate, Doctoral) or who recently graduate.Spots are limited—registration required.

Recommended Items: Clothing:You will need at least 3 days worth of outdoor clothes (i.e quick dry material- no cotton!)Mid layer jacket, long sleeve shirt(s), short sleeve shirt(s), long pant(s), undergarments, hatShoes: Closed toe hiking shoes (1 for hiking)Personal Hygiene Materials, Shower Shoes, Towel (showers available at campsite)Water receptacles (camelback, 2x water bottle (at least 32 ozs), platypus, etc.)Hiking PackHeadlamp, SunglassesOptional:Hiking poles, jet boil, hammocksIf you want to bring your own camping gear such as a tent (please no larger than individual tent due to space), sleeping bag, or sleeping pads please let outings leader know so we do not overpack. If you do not have this gear it will be provided.
Signup Restrictions: Must be a currently enrolled military student at a university or have proof of veteran or active status (Veteran ID card or DD214 or CAC).Must be comfortable with heights and walking up to 4 miles on uneven terrain
