Join the Sierra Club and neighbors across Minnesota in standing up for clean water and clean energy and to hold big tech and their data centers accountable. Tech billionaires are trying to build giant data centers across Minnesota. Their plans—if unregulated—could pollute our water, drain aquifers, subvert climate goals, raise electric bills, subject neighbors to noise and light pollution, and drain the state budget and force cuts to services.
To build these energy hog facilities, with taxpayer subsidies, “tech bros” seek to avoid public scrutiny by negotiating sweetheart deals with elected officials in secret, directly undermining our democracy.
But we can fight back, and we can win. People power can beat billionaire power, if we hold the line and demand no more handouts to rich polluters.
Agenda: 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM - Gather and rally in the rotunda
- Meet with fellow Minnesotans who are working to fight hyperscale datacenters
- Learn about the threats from data centers, the policy needed to address these, and how you can help
- Speakers from across the state will share more about the risks poised by the data centers and how we can address these risks
12:00 PM - 1:00 PM - Lunch
1:00 PM - 3:00 PM - Suggested Senate & House visits
- We encourage folks to go visit with their senator and representatives. We will have information on how to talk with your legislators and handouts on the data center risks and policy solutions. We will help folks gather with neighbors and help you find the right office.
- If possible, make an appointment with them in advance. However, even without an appointment you can stop by the Senate offices and leave an info packet at the House offices. This lets them know this is an issue constituents really care about. (Find out who represents you here. Reach out to the listed contact and ask if you can set up a meeting to talk with them.)
