Sally Burgess

Join us for a discussion about what communities can do to slow down the onslaught of proposed data centers pushing into all areas of Illinois.  Learn how the Sierra Club is engaging nationally and across the state regarding this imminent development.   Participants can come early at 5:30 and enjoy a delicious meal from Old Bakery Beer Company into the venue.

Sally Burgess, Downstate Organizing Manager for the Sierra Club  Illinois Chapter will be our presenter.
At the current rate, the growth of data centers in Illinois will increase by 20% annually putting a strain on our clean energy goals and increasing the cost of utility bills for ratepayers.  The negative impacts don't stop there!
Data centers use significant amounts of water for both on-site operations as well as off-site power generation. Local impacts also include air pollution from back-up fossil fuel generators, noise pollution, land-use conflicts and critically--a lack of transparency and public engagement.
