More solar and wind projects are getting added to the Massachusetts grid every year as we move towards our 2050 mandate of a net-zero economy. But what happens to a 100% renewable grid when the sun stops shining and the wind stops blowing. Thats where energy storage comes in. Energy storage charges on excess energy from times when the sun is bring and the wind is fierce and discharges that energy during peak times when we need it most.
Join us to hear about one type of utility scale energy store: Battery Energy Storage Systems, or BESS, that are popping up across the Commonwealth. We'll talk about some of the benefits of having BESS on our grid, ways that communities can benefit from good siting and host community agreements, and some of the safety conversations we've heard popping up.
