Join one of Maryland Sierra Club’s biggest events of the year! Our annual Lobby Night is an essential way to help advance key environmental legislation with other Sierra Club members in your community.

On Thursday, February 5th at 7 PM we will hold our virtual Lobby Night training/kickoff. During this event, we will review the Chapter’s 2026 legislative agenda and provide background information on our priority bills. You will also have a chance to meet with other members in your district to prepare for your Lobby Night meetings. We are asking everyone to join the Kickoff event to help prepare for their lobby night meetings on Monday, February 9th.
Then, join us on Monday, February 9th from 4-8 PM for our Annual Lobby Night in-person in Annapolis during which you will have an opportunity to meet in person with your district’s state legislators. We will meet at 4:00 PM at Asbury United Methodist Church on 87 West Street in Annapolis for a lobby night launch and welcome session. Appetizers will be served and the entrance and restrooms are wheelchair accessible. Then we will head over to meetings in the Maryland Senate and House office buildings (approximately 8 minute walk) between 5:30-8 PM.
This year we will be lobbying on priority bills to:
🌎 Enact a statewide recycling-refund and litter reduction program for beverage containers (“Bottle Bill”), which would reduce beverage container litter and plastic pollution, capture at least 90% of the beverage containers sold in the state for recycling, and increase the availability of food-grade materials for recycled content.
🚉 Shift investments away from highway expansion to more affordable and clean transportation choices including public transit, walking and biking (“Transportation and Climate Alignment Act”).
🌟Protect funding in the State's budget for environmental programs. These include:
- The Strategic Energy Investment Fund that makes utility bills more affordable for low-income households and reduces emissions by investing in efficiency, electrification, clean transportation, and renewable energy;
- Program Open Space, that promotes conservation of Maryland's undeveloped lands and outdoor recreation opportunities; and
- The operations of the State's environmental agencies, including the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE), the Department of Natural Resources (DNR), the Maryland Department of Agriculture (MDA), and the Maryland Energy Administration (MEA).
Direct conversations with your elected officials to advocate on these issues is one of the most powerful actions you can take to make positive changes for our environment!
