Lawn Alternatives

Are you considering moving away from pesky grass for your yard, but not sure how? This tour will definitely inspire you as we stroll through 3-4 urban landscapes that have either replaced some or all of their turf grass.

The tour will begin at our meeting place on Saturday, June 3, at 9 a.m. Meet at the City parking lot located on the west side of the YMCA Tennis Center at 1260 Menomonie St, Eau Claire. We will carpool to the homes.

Note that the date has changed from the originally announced date (May 20).

Americans’ love for their lawns has a devastating environmental impact.  Each year, lawns consume nearly 3 trillion gallons of precious water, 200 million gallons of gas, and 70 million tons of pesticides. Turf grass provides virtually no habitat for pollinators, animals, and plants that make up a healthy, diverse ecosystem. Eradication of all grass isn’t necessary but think about if there are areas of your yard that can be converted to a more diverse and sustainable landscape--where turf can be replaced with native plants, and non-invasive, climate-friendly plants that thrive locally. Get ideas on how you, too, can make a change in your own backyard!

Additional Directions: Meet at the City parking lot located on the west side of the YMCA Tennis Center at 1260 Menomonie St, Eau Claire. We will carpool to the homes.

Cancellation Policy: Steady rain cancels
