On “Walk in Penn’s Woods Day,” join the Sierra Club, Save PA Forest Coalition, Keystone Trails Association, and the Responsible Decarbonization Alliance for a challenging, informative, and memorable hike on the Graff Woolever and Loyalsock Trails.

The approximately five-mile hike ascends the dynamic Graff Woolever Trail up the Allegheny Ridge from a parking area along Little Bear Road in the Loyalsock State Forest. The Graff Woolever Trail rapidly climbs a picturesque stream valley and eventually crosses a ridge to an intersection with the Loyalsock Trail (LT).  The hike takes the LT east as it follows the ridge offering spectacular views of the Susquehanna lowlands. The LT then curves back across the ridge merging with what used to be the graceful and bucolic Bryan Hay Trail -- now converted into a corridor for giant machinery supporting a nearby gas pad. The hike concludes by descending on the LT back into Little Bear Valley, a few hundred yards from the start.

During the journey, participants will learn about threats, past and present, posed to these trails and surrounding areas by natural gas development activities. Participants should pack lunch, water, and rain gear (just in case) as well as comfortable shoes for a moderately difficult hike. Meeting location and further details will be shared with participants prior to the event.

Carpool: If you are coming from the Harrisburg area, carpool opportunities may be available. Reach out to Keystone Trails Association:ktahike@kta-hike.org to coordinate.

Note: Carpool transportation is at the sole risk of the participants.
