At this Annual Gathering of Sierra Club Kentucky, environmentalists from across the state come together to build community. This year, we will hear from engaging speakers on the subject of climate change and how it is affecting us now and in the future. There will be a keynote speaker Saturday night. Join us as we learn, hike, and share a locally sourced dinner at Barren River Lake State Resort Park in Barren County!

Over two days, Kentucky Sierrans and friends will hear about work being done to address climate change and to protect nature’s bounty and processes. There will be sessions from experts on preserving waterways, growing renewable energy, creating a sustainable agriculture, and protecting forests. Gerry James, Sierra Club Outdoors for All Deputy Campaign Director, will share his work on access and equity in the outdoors and will lead a session on strengthening the Chapter’s outings program. Throughout the weekend, we plan to have opportunities to hike, birdwatch, and meditate. The final session will focus on creating a list of actions that individuals can take to reduce carbon emissions and slow global warming. On Saturday night, we will share in a locally-sourced meal and listen to our keynote speaker, Daniel Wildcat, Ph.D. Wildcat is a professor at Haskell Indian Nations University in Lawrence, Kansas, and an accomplished scholar who writes on Indigenous knowledge, technology, environment, and education. He is the author, most recently, of On Indigenuity: Learning the Lessons of Mother Earth (2023).

This event is open to all Sierra Club members, supporters, and friends of the environment. As Kentucky’s largest environmental organization, we envision a weekend of camaraderie and connection, as we celebrate our victories and work towards a sustainable future for Kentucky.
