FOJG Virtual Program: Monarchs: Endangered but not Protected

MONARCHS: ENDANGERED BUT NOT PROTECTED - As the Monarch Migration numbers continue to decline, there is new concern over their future. Monarchs east of the Rocky Mountains used to number in the hundreds of millions but the population has dropped by 80% and the Western Monarch edges closer to actual extinction. Is there anything we as citizens can do to help slow and reverse this trend? Karl Green and Chris Burnside will discuss current research and strategies that they are implementing in their yard.

MONARCHS:  ENDANGERED BUT NOT PROTECTED

As the Monarch Migration numbers continue to decline, there is new concern over their future.

Karl Green is an Artist/Fashion and Costume Designer/Educator and an avid Native Gardener/Specialist.  He enjoys passing his knowledge of native plants to anyone who is interested in learning more.  Additionally, as a fashionista he has been exploring the environmental impact the fashion and textile industry has had on our planet as well as it’s underrepresented populations.

Chris Burnside is an Artist/Choreographer/Educator who believes the Arts can play a valuable part in addressing Big Picture Issues – like Climate Change. He attended Former Vice President Al Gore’s Climate Reality Leadership Training in Pittsburgh October of 2017.  Since then, he has been making power point presentations about the Environment and working with his husband, Karl, to convert their yard into a Native Pollinator Habitat and to SPREAD THE WORD!
