Alpine Wildflower/Edible/Medicinal Plant Hike

Local wildflower expert Calida May will "take us HIGHER!" (Remember Sly and the Family Stone?) as we hike the Pass Creek trail for approximately 2 miles and identify Rocky Mountain wildflowers that will be blooming at @ 10,500 ft. This trail is a well-traveled trail to the summit of Engineer Peak, the most photographed peak in Colorado. The wildflowers, edible/medicinal plants and views are magnificent, with the surrounding peaks and pines providing the backdrop. The Pass Creek Trailhead is located 35 miles north of Durango, CO, at the summit of Coal Bank Hill at an elevation of 10500 feet. Registrants should be in shape to hike at 11,000 feet for 3-4 hours with a day pack, etc. Lodging/camping are available in Durango and Silverton and are the responsibilty of registrants. Apparel/gear and rendezvous instructions will appear in the "full description" and be sent to registrants. well in advance of the outing.

Level: Strenuous(moderate to strenuous)

Cost: personal expenses; $20/registrant for the guide.

Signup Instructions: Registration and waiver must be completed at riograndesierraclub.org/calendar by Friday, June 17.

Bring: Recommended apparel/gear/nutrition info will appear in the "full description" and be sent to registrants.

Signup Restrictions: Registrants must be 18 years or older. No dogs. Must be able to hike 4 miles at an altitude of 10,500 ft. with an elevation gain of 1500 ft. over 4 hours. Limit of 10.

Carpool: Carpooling is encouraged but cannot be arranged by the Sierra Club outings leader due to liability issues.

Note: Carpool transportation is at the sole risk of the participants.
