Explore six miles of trails at the Lewisville Lake Environmental Learning Center (LLELA,“lee-lah”). Amy Martin, Master Naturalist and author of Wild DFW, will show and explain the amazing nature in this preserve of Eastern Cross Timbers, lush bottomland forest, marshes, meadows, prairies, and river channels. We’ll walk at a good pace, with stops for points of interest.

Arrive by 9:30 a.m. and expect to finish around 2:00 p.m. The preserve's address is 201 E. Jones St., Lewisville. Find Google map directions by typing “LLELA Nature Preserve.” Pay the $5 per vehicle gate fee, drive one block, take the first right to the education center, and gather at the tables.

Wear a hat, sunscreen, long pants and closed-toe shoes, as the dirt trails are narrow and rugged, with some easier sections. (Participants will sign a participation agreement at the trailhead to acknowledge inherent risks when hiking). Bring water for 4½ hours and a sack lunch. Amy will sign copies of Wild DFW, with chapters about LLELA and twenty-four other DFW destinations for amazing nature if you wish to purchase her book.
