Please join Desert Survivors and the Sierra Club Range of Light Group, and their featured Bodie Hills expert Jora Fogg, for this virtual presentation on how and why protecting the Bodie Hills can help fulfill state, national, and global 30×30 goals.
The Bodie Hills lie between the Sierra Nevada and the Great Basin Desert on the California/Nevada border. Its landscape is both scenic and ecologically diverse with volcanic mountains, aspen groves, meadows, and ephemeral lakes. The views from its peaks are stunning. The Bodie Hills provide habitat for a variety of species including the imperiled Bi-State Sage Grouse. The place is also rich in pre- and post-colonial cultural history.
Jora Fogg knows much about this special place. She is Policy Director for Friends of the Inyo and leads the Bodie Hills Conservation Partnership––a coalition of organizations opposed to industrial-scale gold mining in the Bodie Hills and advocating for its permanent protection. In 2020 she completed a comprehensive Lands with Wilderness Character inventory of the California portion of the Bodie Hills.
