Join Angeles Chapter Travel Adventures on a premium, wide-ranging, 14 day - 13 night adventure in Sri Lanka, which Lonely Planet designated as its 2019 Top Country for Travel. Sri Lanka is a shining gem of a destination in the Indian Ocean; the island nation is rich in culture, UNESCO World Heritage sites, wildlife, birds, and stunning beaches. In addition it offers world-class shopping for clothes, gems, and art, and its unique and delicious cuisine is rich in fresh seafood and vegetables. Our trip is scheduled within the best season for travel in Sri Lanka; temperatures are typically warm without being too hot, and we’ll enjoy our time there before the monsoon rains begin.
Highlights include: Sri Lanka's North Central Heritage Cities, home to five UNESCO World Heritage Sites including Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Sigiriya, Dambulla Cave Temple, and Kandy (including Temple of the Tooth, another world heritage site), which are rich in ancient architecture and religious monuments. A visit to a typical village to meet local families, and a lunch at a women's cooperative. In Kandy, we plan to visit the national botanical gardens to view flowers and several species of birds. Visit a spice market, a gem museum.
A wildlife safari in Yala National Park (or alternate) searching for buffaloes, elephants, crocodiles, birds and the very elusive endemic leopards. In Galle, we will explore a Portuguese fort and sea activities and in Colombo, shopping, and a city walk.
We will stay in comfortable 4-5 star hotels throughout and travel by private bus, with our knowledgeable English speaking guide. As an added special value, all (13) breakfasts and DINNERS, as well 2 lunches are included. Most group activities, entrances and attractions are included in the price. A Royal Tea ceremony is included at the Grand Hotel Nuwara Eliya (a heritage hotel), where we are planning to stay 2 nights, exploring the tea estates and markets.
