If you are an active exerciser who loves being outside, join us as we create an outdoor gym experience/par course in the beautiful SF Botanic Garden.
Bring your theraband (or let me know if you need one).

What to expect: We will explore the garden, with some brisk walking, stopping along the way for some strengthening exercises and stretches.

Think of this as an outdoor exercise class - guided exercise while enjoying the SF Botanic Garden - a 55 acre unique area inside Golden Gate Park highlighting our diverse and interesting Mediterranean climate. Using bands, we will work lats, rotator cuff, triceps.

We will use charming places in the garden to do squats, lunges, dips, modified push ups/pull ups/planks, balance, core and agility exercises. Each person will be encouraged to listen to their body and modify any movement that is not YUMMY.

Meet at the 9th avenue entrance to the San Francisco Botanic Garden at 7:55. If you don't see us at the entrance, after you enter the garden, turn R into an area with a pergola.  This is where we start our exercise program.

At this time of the morning, entrance to The Garden is free and street parking is easy.

After our garden exploration and healthy morning exercise, we will have a unique opportunity to view paintings by one of my favorite artists who is showing at the SF Botanical Garden Library. The Library is only open Fri-Sun, starting at 10.

Afterwards, we have the option to walk over to the DeYoung Museum where there is a wonderful Art Deco exhibit (see below) and the magnificent art of Leilah Babirye as well as 3 other special exhibits.

Once we've seen the wonderful library exhibit, we can walk the short distance (less than 5 minutes) to the DeYoung Museum. If you are a member, entrance is free. Members get one guest so indicate in comments if you'd like a ticket and maybe you'll get lucky.

End time approximate as you may want to stay and explore more of the museum.

This is a small group exercise activity and so:

  • RSVP only if you truly intend to come

  • Keep RSVP current so you don't hold a space unnecessarily (or get a no-show on your record)

  • Priority will be given to those who want to also go to the museum after the Garden Exercise experience.

  • We start on time.

  • Inclement weather will cancel or reschedule.

  • If you are not registered (by clicking the link above) you are not registered and your RSVP will have to be removed to make space for someone who is, especially if there is a wait list.

DeYoung Exhibit

With works that exuded cool elegance and transgressive sensuality, Tamara de Lempicka (1894–1980) helped define Art Deco. Her paintings captured the glamour and vitality of postwar Paris and the cosmopolitan sheen of Hollywood celebrity. This exhibition — the first major museum retrospective of Lempicka in the United States — explores the artist’s distinctive style and unconventional life through four major chapters. The more than 100 artworks on display range from her post-Cubist work in 1920s Paris to her most famous nudes and portraits to the melancholic still lifes and interiors of her final days in the United States and Mexico. Including an in-depth look at the artist’s drawings and studies, this exhibition reveals the creative process behind her iconic paintings.
