Hike #7 in the 2025 Saturday in the Santa Monica Mountains series is a SUNDAY outing. It is a strenuous 11 miles, 2300 gain hike up Hondo Canyon across Fossil Ridge to lunch at Saddle Peak and return.Meet at 8:00 am at Old Topanga Canyon Backbone trailhead (take Old Topanga Canyon Road one mile from Topanga Cyn Blvd). For safety do not make a left turn into the roadway parking. Rather, drive less than 1/2 mile further until you reach a straight part of the road. Safely turn around and drive back to the trailhead. Parking is limited so carpooling is encouraged.This is a Back Country hike, and a medical form is required. Please print it out and carry it with you. Copies of the form will be available to fill out at the trailhead as well. Bring: Bring water, snacks, sunscreen, and a good attitude.

Additional Directions: In going on a Sierra Club outing you are potentially on a trip with individuals vaccinated and unvaccinated. It is your choice to attend the outing knowing this information. The leader can not and should not reveal the status of participants vaccination or reject a participant based on their vaccination status. You are welcome to wear a mask if that makes you comfortable. If someone is experiencing any possible COVID symptoms or is sick, they should not attend the outing. The participant is responsible for contacting the leader to report a positive COVID test. Leaders will provide participants with their contact information. Leader will report as an Incident Report to the Sierra Club.

Cancellation Policy: Check online Sierra Club Schedule of activities and your emails before leaving the morning of. Rain, excessive heat, or red flag alert cancels.
