Action Day: Keep 376 Mature Trees Standing in Forest Park
In case you missed it, Portland General Electric wants to cut four acres of very old trees in Forest Park for a new electricity transmission line. Phase 3 of their Harborton Project would clear mature douglas fir, maple, and oak trees while also filling in streams and wetlands and disrupting wildlife habitat. The Sierra Club supports modernizing our electric grid to meet the challenges of climate change and the transition to renewable energy, but we are not convinced that PGEs new line is needed to meet the modest expected growth in residential energy demand. On the morning of January 29 the city's permit department will host a hearing on the proposed Land Use permit. Join us at the Chapter office to make a public comment and watch the hearing with other concerned residents.
