20-mile moderate bicycle ride on paved rail-trail. The Allegheny Highlands Trail offers 31 miles of non-motorized recreation with exceptional scenery, from small towns and rural farmland to wooded forests and sweeping riverside vistas. We will ride out-and-back from one end of the trail at Hendricks. Most or all of our route will be paved and nearly flat—along Black Fork and Shavers Fork. A ride highlight will be the Western Maryland Railroad Bridge and Depot in Parsons. Along the way, we’ll stop for a picnic and discuss the trail’s relationship to the controversies of Corridor H.
