Early Migrating Birds Along the Animas River in Farmington.
Trip is about three miles round trip, along trails on flat terrain. Leisurely pace. We will compare resident birds with early migrants passing through. Eighteen year-olds and up only. No dogs please. Use sunscreen, consider bug juice, bring binocular, water, snacks, and dress for the weather. For greater enjoyment, download the Merlin Ap to your phone; it is free. Limit of 10 people. Register no later than Wednesday, April 30 at www.riograndesierraclub.org/calendarComing from the north, take US Hwy 550 to Aztec. In Aztec, 550 turns left and heads south. At that intersection, stay straight on Hwy 516, which becomes Main Street as you enter Farmington. Look for Browning Parkway (still Hwy 516), where you turn left. Drive to the first traffic light, turn right, proceed to the roundabout, go right there, then take your first left, which takes you to a parking area, next to a gate at the riverside nature center. We will meet there.Or from US 64 west or east of Farmington, turn north onto Browning Parkway (NM-516), and go to the third traffic light, turn left there, proceed right at the roundabout, then take your first left, which takes you to a parking area, next to a gate. We will meet there.
