Strenuous 14 miles, 2400 gain hike starting at the Backbone Trail toward Castro Peak, and then down the Bulldog returning through Malibu Creek State Park and the M*A*S*H site. Meet at the Piuma Trailhead (also known as the Mesa Peak trailhead) located south of the intersection with Piuma on the west side of Las Virgenes/Malibu Cyn Rd. (101 to Las Virgenes Road, south about 5 miles, or PCH to Malibu Canyon Road, north 4 miles). Parking fee or appropriate pass is required. Parking may also be available at the dirt lot at the corner of Piuma and Malibu Canyon Road. This is a Back Country hike and medical form required. Med forms can be downloaded from URL bitly.com/scmedicalform or will be available at the trailhead.

Bring: Bring water, lunch, hiking boots/shoes, hat and sun screen.

Additional Directions: In going on a Sierra Club outing you are potentially on a trip with individuals vaccinated and unvaccinated. It is your choice to attend the outing knowing this information. The leader can not and should not reveal the status of participants vaccination or reject a participant based on their vaccination status. You are welcome to wear a mask if that makes you comfortable. If someone is experiencing any possible COVID symptoms or is sick, they should not attend the outing. The participant is responsible for contacting the leader to report a positive COVID test. Leaders will provide participants with their contact information. Leader will report as an Incident Report to the Sierra Club.
