O: Tue Conditioned Hikers: Newton Canyon to Buzzards

Strenuous 12 miles, 2700 gain hike going west on the Backbone Trail with a turnaround at Encinal Canyon Road. On the return trip we'll make a side trip on the Zuma Ridge Motorway to Buzzard's Roost Ranch for lunch. Meet at the Newton Canyon Trailhead (PCH 5.9 miles west of Malibu Canyon Road, north 4 miles on Kanan-Dume Road after 1st tunnel, or 8 miles south of 101/Ventura Freeway just before 3rd tunnel). Bring: Bring water, lunch, hiking shoes/boots, hat.

Additional Directions: In going on a Sierra Club outing you are potentially on a trip with individuals vaccinated and unvaccinated. It is your choice to attend the outing knowing this information. The leader can not and should not reveal the status of participants vaccination or reject a participant based on their vaccination status. You are welcome to wear a mask if that makes you comfortable. If someone is experiencing any possible COVID symptoms or is sick, they should not attend the outing. The participant is responsible for contacting the leader to report a positive COVID test. Leaders will provide participants with their contact information. Leader will report as an Incident Report to the Sierra Club.
