Wilderness First Aid in Palo Alto:  Location: Peninsula Conservation Center, 3921 E. Bayshore Rd., Palo Alto CA.  Certification by the National Association for Search and Rescue, valid 2 years, is included in the course fee. The textbook is not included in the fee.

There are two options:   Wilderness First Aid: Both days. $80 for Sierra Club members; $100 for non-members. 

Basic Wilderness First Aid: Saturday only. $50 for Sierra Club members; $60 for non-members.

2. Payment: Pay the instructor in class: cash or check to Steve Donelan, Textbook: Wilderness Emergency Care by Steve Donelan. You can use the old edition for this class (or Steve's Wilderness First Aid) if you have it. If not, order Wilderness Emergency Care, Third Edition Revised from Amazon. It is now published by NASAR, greatly revised and expanded, with all photos in full color. The instructor, Steve Donelan has been developing and teaching courses in wilderness and pre-hospital emergency care for 39 years.

He is the program author and instructor trainer for the WEC program he developed for the National Association for Search and Rescue (www.wildernessemergencycare.org), and has been an Outdoor Emergency Care instructor for the National Ski Patrol since the beginning of the program in 1988.

Steve has published many articles on emergency care and how to teach it, as well as several textbooks. He was also a peer reviewer and contributor for the Wilderness Medical Society Practice Guidelines for Wilderness Emergency Care.

Cost: 1 day: Basic Wilderness First Aid (Saturday only) satisfies First Aid requirements for level 1 leaders (day hikes). $50/$60 2 days: Wilderness First Aid for overnight backcountry leaders  (Saturday and Sunday) $80/$100
