I: ⭐️ Caliente Mountain (5106 ft)

I: Caliente Mountain (5106 ft) - Join us for a strenuous and rewarding hike to Caliente Mountain, San Luis Obispo county high point and HPS Star Peak. Caliente was the site of a World War II lookout tower. We will follow HPS route 2, which is partly on road and the rest is cross country on a series of ridges. The first miles are gradual ascent, with rolling terrain through grasslands and scattered shrubs. The summit of Caliente Mountain offers views of the Carrizo Plain, Temblor Range, and even the Sierra Nevada on a clear day. Stats: 12 miles rt, 3300 feet total gain including 500 feet on return. This hike is classified as Back Country; a completed paper Local Outings Medical Form must be available for review at the beginning of the event by primary leader. Please bring hiking footwear, layers, beverage, lunch, snacks, sunblock and hat for your hike. Contact Primary Leader: BILL SIMPSON for meeting time and location. Co-Leaders: LIDIA BARBOSA, PAUL MAURIN, RON CAMPBELL, SHANA RAPOPORT
