State Park Love Fest At Weeki Wachee Springs

Join us on Saturday, April 5th anytime from 3PM -- 6PM at intersection of Cortez Boulevard and Highway 19, at the Weeki Wachee Springs State Park entrance to wave signs supporting our state parks. Make your own sign or use one of ours. Park at the end of the Weeki Wachee Springs Park parking lot near the exit. If it is full, use the drug store across the street. There is also an unpaved sandy access road with room for a few cars immediately adjacent to the park sign accessible from Cortez if you are coming from Hernando Beach. On August 20, 2024, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FL-DEP) quietly rolled out a fast-track plan to build golf courses, pickleball courts, and luxury resort-style lodging in nine of Floridas iconic state parks. As bi-partisan outrage erupted far and wide, Sierra Club Florida and partners sprang into action organizing meetings, protests, and press conferences to stop the attack on our parks. Within a matter of days, the power of our collective outcry forced them to postpone its paltry array of scheduled public meetings, but while some in the environmental community declared the postponements a victory, we did not. There are now two bills moving through the Florida legislative process, CS/SB 80 and HB 209, but as currently written/amended, these bills cannot prevent the development threats we fought last year. So it is time to once again act together to remind our leaders that we LOVE OUR STATE PARKS and they need to take the steps required to amend their bills to actually protect our parks. Lets ask everyone to show their LOVE for our parks by turning out on Sat. April 5 for the State Park Love Fest!
