A volunteer hour of service and hike at the Forest Beach Migratory Bird Preserve

Sierra Club members will join our friends from Restoring Lands for volunteer service and hike at the Forest Beach Migratory Bird Preserve! We'll be removing garlic mustard and dames rocket, invasive plant species, to help maintain biodiversity at this highly frequented bird sanctuary on Lake Michigan. The fragrant, herbaceous plant and its pink-flowered cousin can overtake entire forest floors and creep into prairies, so it's important to remove it in spring. Then, we'll spend time exploring the trails and hawk towers of the preserve with the stewardship staff, learning the history and restoration work done by the Land Trust. Bring your binoculars, and a water bottle! No dogs are allowed at FBMP. Closed-toed shoes, long pants, and hat/hair coverage are recommended. Tools and work gloves provided. Knee/garden pads are encouraged and welcomed since we'll be kneeling.
