Join the Sierra Club Grand Canyon Chapter for a guided hike through Palatkti Heritage Site, an ancestral site of the Hopi peoples. We will learn more about this ancestral place, the complicated history of public lands, and how public lands in this region are under threat, and what you can do.
Schedule
12:00-1:00 pm: Meet at picnic tables located by ranger station. Eat lunch, chat, and listen to a brief presentation from Grand Canyon Program Manager Mattea Goetz about the complicated history of public lands and how they are currently being threatened- and what you can do!
1:00-2:30 pm: Guided hike of site by site Docents
Notes:
- A Federal Interagency or Red Rock Pass is required for parking. Red Rock Passes may be purchased on-site.
- No Pets allowed
- Tours include 60 uneven, fairly strenuous steps; please be aware of personal limitations.
- Site access:
The roads to Palatki are rough gravel roads. Passable for passenger cars; drivers need to go slowly and carefully. Plan on extra time. Percipitation may cancel event due to unpassable roads. Mattea will connect with participants if that is the case. Carpooling may be available.
