Kayak Thomas Creek

Come kayak Thomas Creek! We will be starting at the Thomas Creek Fish Camp and kayaking 5.5 miles round trip (turn-around at Thomas Creek Landing). There are no boat rentals so you will have to have your own kayak. You must have some kayaking experience to attend this trip. The water is dark and there are many obstacles under the water you may hit, depending on the level of the water. There is overgrowth of various water foliage, such as Alligator Weed and Floating Pennywort that you will have to kayak over. There may also be a small portage or two. This creek is nice, smooth, and quiet so it will mostly be a nice, leisurely paddle. The boat ramp is located at 17198 Ethel Road in Jacksonville. You can stop your car by the ramp and unpack before parking. There is ample, free parking and a bathroom located in the parking lot. Be at the boat ramp by 8:30. Launch time is at 9:00. Bring sunscreen, hat, bug spray, water, snack, whistle, and Personal Flotation Device (PFD). No one will be allowed on the water without PFD and whistle. No pets allowed on this adventure. Note: You are required to sign our participation agreement to participate in our outings. * Help the environment by following these tips: Bring your water in a reusable container instead of a single-use plastic bottle. Use sunscreen free oxybenzone and oxtinoxate. These chemicals are extremely harmful to coral reefs, as well as being hormone disruptors in humans.Sierra Club maintains a safe space agreement between participants, leaders, volunteers, and staff. They want to support everyone and exploring, enjoying, and protecting our natural environment, and hateful and dangerous behavior will not be tolerated. We don't want to deny participation in these outdoor programs, and we will always say no to racism, sexism, ageism, homophobia, impairment, and disruption. We request that all participants cooperate with the outings leaders direction to ensure a safe and enjoyable outing for everyone.
