CANCELLED: O: Tue Moderate Hikers/Solstice Canyon/Deer Valley Loop
8 mile round trip hike with 1800 ft elevation gain. The first part of the hike will take us up the Rising Sun trail and lead us to the ruins of Roberts Ranch House which was built in 1952. It featured exotic animals, several fireplaces, a bomb shelter and a stone path that leads to a waterfall. It was seized as part of a drug conviction in the 70s. It burned in 1982. But it still provides a nice spot for a snack and a break before starting up the Deer Valley Loop Trail. For those not wanting to go further hiking back will give a 3.7 mile hike. On the way back we can see the remains of the first stone house built in the Santa Monica Mountains. This was built by Henry Keller - one of the owners of the Spanish Land grant that eventually became the Malibu of today. Meet 8:00 am Pacific Palisades rideshare pt (first parking lot on right on Los Liones after turning on Sunset) or 8:30 am at Solstice Cyn parking lot. From Pacific Coast Highway turn north onto Corral Canyon Road (right if going west on PCH, left if coming east). There is a Union 76 station at the corner. Within a couple of hundred yards, continue straight into Solstice Canyon park. Do NOT make sharp right turn to continue up Corral Canyon. Parking is free. This is a back country hike: medical form required. Med forms can be downloaded from URL bitly.com/scmedicalform or will be available at the trailhead.
