O: Tue Moderate Hikers/ BBT @ Piuma to Mesa Peak & Cross Overlook
Join us on a 7.2 Mile hike with 1400' of gain. Meet at 7:45 am at the Pacific Palisades ride share point (first parking lot on right on Los Liones after turning on Sunset) or at the trailhead at 8:30. Use Google maps to navigate using the term "Backbone Trail Access at Piuma" to get to the paved parking lot on Malibu Canyon Road. If you take PCH from Santa Monica, head W and turn inland at Malibu Cyn Road (near Pepperdine) and drive 4.5 miles to the trailhead parking lot on the L. If you take the 101 freeway, exit at Las Virgenes Road and go S towards the ocean and Malibu for 5.2 miles to just past Piuma Rd, where the lot will be on the R. (Note that Las Virgenes Road changes names to Malibu Canyon Road.) Be sure to pay the parking fee. We will go on a beautiful uphill trek through oak woods with mist covered Spider Webs hanging from them. We'll walk up, and snack at Mesa Peak, then continue to the site of the cross overlooking Pepperdine University. We'll have lunch and return the same way we came.This is a back country hike: medical form required. Med forms can be downloaded from URL bitly.com/scmedicalform or will be available at the trailhead. NOTE: IGNORE RIDE SHARE INSTRUCTIONS AS ACCESS MAY STILL BE RESTRICTED DUE TO THE PALISADES FIRE.

Additional Directions: In going on a Sierra Club outing you are potentially on a trip with individuals vaccinated and unvaccinated. It is your choice to attend the outing knowing this information. The leader can not and should not reveal the status of participants vaccination or reject a participant based on their vaccination status. You are welcome to wear a mask if that makes you comfortable. If someone is experiencing any possible COVID symptoms or is sick, they should not attend the outing. The participant is responsible for contacting the leader to report a positive COVID test. Leaders will provide participants with their contact information. Leader will report as an Incident Report to the Sierra Club.
